Starting at Windows 9x, the disk defragmentation tool was made available. Before that a third party had released a disk defragmenter for use with Windows 9x. A useful add on that has been made available in Windows Vista is that you can opt to run the disk defragmenter at certain repeated times. This way, you don't have to worry about remembering to run the disk defragmenter. You can simply set the times that you want it to run. In Windows Vista, you can also select which volumes are to be defragmented along with a simpler user interface.
